About this strap.
Citizen watches have a long and venerable history which is very much matched by the history of the bund watch strap. Citizen watch company were founded through Swiss Japanese cooperation with founder Rodolphe Schmid registering in Switzerland for watches that he aimed to sell into Japan. His company was taken over by Japanese and Swiss investors in 1930 and Citizen watches were born. As a watch company they have an incredible record for innovation and development in terms of watch function and design. They were the first company to have a wholly water resistant watch, to develop the atomic watch and to create, possibly their most famous watch movement, the Eco Drive solar powered movement. The latter has proved a massive commercial success and when you see how reliable and clever Eco Drives are it is completely unsurprising.
The bund watch strap design itself also has a fascinating historical provenance. The design came about during World War Two when German aviators required a watch strap that prevented the cold lump of steel, the watch case, freezing to them as they stayed in freezing conditions at high altitude. Hence the bund watch strap. The leather backing pad would prevent the watch case causing excruciating pain for the wearer. The pad had the added benefit for all servicemen that it prevented sweat from entering the watch case and damaging it. The bund watch band rapidly became the go to watch strap for those serving in the forces. So in this strap and Citizen watch company we have two interesting lines of history.
This particular bund watch strap features thick leather. It is harder than some leathers and will need to be worn in to adapt to the shape of your wrist. It has beautiful white stitching which is great to pick up and accent the white of a dial or watch hands.
The fitments on this watch are stainless steel which means they will resist corrosion and are particularly strong.
The strap measures some 220mm - 230mm depending on the size of the watch head that it attaches to.
